How did the name come about?
The members used to meet on alternate Wednesdays. As enthusiasm for this exclusively saxophone group grew, there was a desire to play together more often. The ensemble increased in numbers and rehearsals were switched to Tuesday evening of every week.
By then"Midweek Sax" had stuck!

Smithills Hall Garden Party when the Hall threw open its doors once again this summer at its annual garden party on Sun 13 July, 2014.
The event opened with hot music from the areas top saxophone ensemble and was broadcast on local radio.

A fantastic day was rounded off when "A Little Bit of Midweek Sax" performed at The Marriott Hotel during the early part of the evening.

"Hundreds flocked to 2014 Bromley Cross summer fair despite bad weather." reported the Bolton News.
Midweek Sax became one of the biggest attractions as the day went on.
Although there were other bands there, this ensemble was of a kind that many visitors had not seen or heard before. They were fascinated.
"One of our best gigs!" pronounced one of the long-standing members of the group. "We have been invited back next year, and we can't ask for better than that."

Festive music was among the attractions in Andrew Park for the area's annual lights switch on.

An appreciative audience indulged in delicious cakes and beverages, served by the most attentive and attractive waitresses. It helped to raise money for this most worthy cause.

A "bit more of Midweek Sax" ( 5 members ) helped to raise funds for the Liverpool Lifeboat when they again entertained at a fund-raising lunch held at Cheadle Heath on Friday 14th December 2012.

THIS TALKING NEWSPAPER PROVIDES AN AUDIO NEWS SERVICE TO BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE IN BOLTON USING STORIES FROM THE 'BOLTON NEWS'.
Conditions were far from ideal, but generous donations were made by those who appreciated live music.

Midweek Sax entertained the ladies after their meal. Pictured are Colin (baritone) Cathy (tenor) Clara and Mike (altos) performing their rendition of "And When The Angels Sing" to the delight of the audience. As one might expect, Christmas Carols were sung with great gusto to the music of the full sax choir.
St LUKE'S CANDLE-LIT SUPPER 30th June 2012
Midweek Sax were delighted to be invited to provide background music at a candle-lit supper organised by members of St. Luke's Church, Chorley Old Road, Bolton. The room in the Church Hall had been transformed to provide an impressive intimate dining atmosphere.
OLYMPIC TORCH 23rd June 2012
East Lancashire Concert Band invited members of Midweek Sax to join them as the Olympic Torch relay passed in front of their home base as it travelled through East Lancashire. They later took part in a musical entertainment inside the Civic Arts Centre, Oswaldtwistle.

JUBILEE CELEBRATION 2nd June 2012
At the invitation of the Royal Society of St George, Midweek Sax performed in front of Blackburn Town Hall during the Saturday afternoon. This was at the start of the town's official celebrations to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Helping North-West Charities
The Sax Choir's Latest fund raising outing was to Bank Top Church, Bolton on 26th May 2012 at the invitation of the Smithills Community Bands.

Thanks to"Midweek Sax" performing at the ASDA store at Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, Bolton on Saturday 27th November 2010, funds for Bolton Samaritans were boosted by over £400.
A "bit of Midweek Sax" ( 4 members ) helped to raise over £1,000 for the Liverpool Lifeboat when they entertained at a fund-raising lunch held at Cheadle Heath on Friday 10th December 2010.
On 18th June 2011 "Midweek Sax" turned out in force to support Bolton Hospice's biggest fund raiser of the year. They performed in the Town Hall Square just before the start of the "Midnight Memories Walk" in which some 1,200 women took part. They also entertained the crowd earlier in the evening, This event raised over £131,000 according to the organisers!
